Sonepar, a France-based global distributor, saw all of the markets in which it operates post significant declines in 2009. But the group is quick to point out that the global picture is made up of contrasting situations by geography. Unfortunately, North America posted some of the worst declines, falling off by nearly 30 percent for the year. In response, Sonepar consolidated its global market leadership in 2009, and Paul Klasing began as new U.S. president for the organization on Jan. 1, 2009, allowing Tony Burr to take on a more global role focusing on strategic initiatives for the Sonepar Group.
*For ranking purposes, MDM converted this figure to U.S. dollars using the exchange rate for Dec. 31, 2009, the final day of Sonepar's fiscal year.
No. 2: Rexel Group (Rexel/Gexpro/IESC)
