The divestment of all Air Liquide
America's welding and retail stores is part of a plan to improve profitability and realign the company's cylinder and hardgoods
business. Although divesting its retail assets, Air Liquide America will continue to manufacture and distribute industrial,
specialty and medical gases to the large customer segment of the market.
'This sale supports our effort to increase
profitability by divesting our retail stores and changing the distribution channels to serve our small- and medium-size customers'
industrial gas and hardgoods needs,' said Francois Venet, senior vice president of Air Liquide America. 'We are not getting
out of the cylinder business, only the hardgoods business, allowing us to re-focus on the business we do best: the manufacturing
of industrial gas and the development of value-added services for our customers.'
Founded in 1902, Air Liquide has 125
subsidiaries in 60 countries and employs more than 30,000 people. Total sales in 2000 totaled 8.1 billion euros with sales
outside of France accounting for 77%.
