Gates Elizabethtown Polyflex plant will not be
affected.
"The reality of today's competitive marketplace has forced us to improve our North American cost base.
We regret having to consider any plant closing, but research is pointing to a closure of the Elizabethtown belt manufacturing
plant as the most practical solution," said John Bohenick, senior vice president of power transmissions division for North
America. The potential closure is not a reflection on the performance of plant employees or plant operations.
While
Gates believes there may be no alternative to plant closure, a final decision will not be made until the union representatives
of USWA Local Union # 780 have been allowed the opportunity to discuss the matter and provide comment.
"This plant has been here a long time, and we respect and appreciate our longstanding relationship with our employees, the union and the community. We want to make sure we've listened to input from the union on how the company could otherwise achieve the required cost-savings before we make our final decision," added Bohenick. The company plans to announce its final decision in the very near future.
Gates Corporation is a diversified manufacturer of automotive and industrial products and systems components. It was
founded in Denver in 1911 and has manufacturing operations and sales offices throughout the world. Gates is a wholly-owned
