Premiums for employer-sponsored health insurance continue to dramatically outpace the rate of wage increases, and families are now contributing about $1,000 more per year out-of-pocket for health insurance premiums than they did in 2000, according to an annual survey released by the Kaiser Family Foundation and Health Research and Educational Trust (HRET).
Since 2000, premiums for family coverage have risen 59 percent, and employee contributions have risen 57 percent, while wages have increased by only 12 percent.
