About Tom Gale

Principal Tom Gale has been publisher since 1992 of Modern Distribution Management, a subscription-based newsletter that provides insight and analysis on what’s happening in wholesale distribution channels. Published since 1967, MDM is often called The Kiplinger Letter for the distribution channel. Tom has researched and written on significant trends of the past decade across a range of distribution channels, including consolidation, integrated supply, e-commerce, vendor reduction and shifts in value definition.

Tom Gale and MDM Editor Lindsay Young both contributed to Outlook 2009: An Executive's Companion to Facing the Forces of Change, published by the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors.

Tom is also the co-author of Stand Out From the Competition! Four Pathways to Differentiate Your Wholesale Distribution Company, with Dr. William R. McCleave, Jr., published in 2003 by the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors Distribution Research and Education Foundation. He was also a member of the oversight committee for the 2001 Facing the Forces of Change report, also published by NAW/DREF.

Tom has researched and written about branding strategies, distribution channels and business issues since the mid-1980s, when he was editor for two state Chamber of Commerce magazines in the Midwest, as well as owner of a custom publishing business that specialized in distributor and customer communications for international manufacturing and technology companies.

Over the past several years, Tom has spoken at a number of industry association events and company meetings. He delivers a unique and valuable perspective in a clear and entertaining presentation on select industry topics, including differentiation, a unique perspective on the current distribution landscape, and his candid thoughts on what will separate the winners in the future.
