Alfa Laval Sales Dip 2% in 2Q

Profit for the Swedish manufacturer increased 31.6 percent in the quarter.

Alfa Laval, Stockholm, Sweden, reported sales for the second quarter were SEK 6.36 billion (US$863.2 million), a decrease of 2 percent over the same period a year ago. Profit improved 31.6 percent to SEK 838 million (US$113.7 million).

Order intake increased 25 percent in the quarter in a year-over-year comparison, and increased 22 percent from first quarter 2010.

"The growth we have seen during two quarters within Parts & Service is now also followed by higher capital sales. Medium-sized orders that for quite a long time have been marked by the customers' hesitant behavior were realized at an accelerating pace during the quarter," said Lars Renström, president and CEO.

For the first six months, sales were SEK 11.7 billion (US$1.59 billion), down 9 percent from the prior year period. Profit improved 3.7 percent to SEK 1.45 billion (US$196.8 million).
