MSC continues to expand its product and service reach, while keeping a focus on its core metalworking segment. The distributor outlined its growth plans earlier this year, setting a goal to eventually reach $10 billion. The drivers for growth for MSC are deepening their product lines. MSC has moved into safety, fasteners, hand and power tools, material handling and more products over the past several years. “You've heard us refer to these product lines as closely related adjacencies," said President Erik Gershwind. "That's because they are consumed on the plant floor in metalworking environments, and oftentimes, they are purchased by the same buyers who are buying metalworking supplies." New end-markets will also be a component of the distributor's growth. Vending has emerged as a growth opportunity for the distributor this year, as well.
