Strong revenue growth was driven by 10 percent revenue increases in both the Pharmaceutical and Medical segments.
"While we're pleased with the performance of our business in this first quarter, we're even more excited about the growth in strategic priority areas including specialty, positron emission tomography, generics, ambulatory, preferred medical products and China," CEO George Barrett said.
Cardinal Health Canada, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cardinal Health, has agreed to acquire Futuremed Healthcare Products Corp. (TSX: FMD), a distributor of consumable nursing home supplies and specialized furniture and equipment to long-term care facilities. The transaction is valued at about C$165 million (US$166 million).
"We believe that the acquisition of Futuremed will enhance our capability to serve and deliver greater value to our Canadian patients across the continuum of care," said David Lees, president and CEO of Cardinal Health Canada.
