But it's also something many people tend to dread. Why? Because we get so caught up in the ways the change won't fix problem X, Y and Z that we miss how it will resolve problem A.
"Our yearning for the solution, the formula that will solve all our problems, the panacea to our angst, is strong. It's also misguided," writes Peter Bregman in a recent blog for the Harvard Business Review. Bregman is CEO of management consulting firm Bregman Partners Inc.
Instead, Bregman suggests that you begin looking at business solutions as "temporary" solutions. Your business needs will change as you grow, so it makes sense that your business solutions will have to change, as well.
After all, while your goal may remain the same – being bigger, faster, stronger, better – the tools you use to get there can evolve along with your business. Recognizing that difference will allow you to keep improving your business to attain that goal.
As Bregman writes: "[The] side effects of an 'it's not forever' mindset drastically increase the chance that you're going to do something instead of just think, talk, plan, and argue about doing something."
