More than ever, distributors are using data across their organizations to make better business decisions. And there is no other publication that offers the kind of data across distribution sectors that we do on a quarterly basis for those that participate in MDM’s Distribution Benchmarking Survey in partnership with Robert W. Baird & Co. We are continuing this partnership in 2012.

If you have participated in this survey over the past year, thank you! We hope you will continue to participate and find the data valuable for your planning in the new year.

If you have not yet taken part – the fourth-quarter survey will be sent out on Wednesday, Jan. 4 – I encourage you to do so. The survey and the results we send you are absolutely free. Not on our email list? Sign-up here and you will receive the next survey request. 

We at MDM use the data and comments collected in the survey to stay on top of trends and issues our readers are facing on a quarterly basis. Your answers remain anonymous.

More importantly, the survey provides our readers with quantitative and qualitative data they can use to benchmark and plan for the next quarter. When you participate, you receive a comprehensive summary, including respondents’ fourth-quarter results and next-quarter expectations for:

  • Revenue
  • Gross margins
  • Pricing
  • Inventory levels

Even better, this data is divided out by 18 subsectors, including building materials, cutting tools, datacomm, electrical, fasteners, jan-san, HVAC, plumbing, MRO, rental equipment and more.
