May sales of durable goods were up 0.5 percent from last month and 18.2 percent from a year ago. Sales of nondurable goods were down 1 percent from last month, and up 12.6 percent from last year.
May inventories of wholesalers were $398.8 billion, up 0.5 percent from April but down 2.1 percent from a year ago. End-of-month inventories of durable goods were up 0.7 percent from last month and down 4.4 percent from last May. Inventories of machinery, equipment and supplies were up 1.7 percent from last month.
End-of-month inventories of nondurable goods were up 0.1 percent from April and 1.6 percent from last May.
Inventories of beer, wine, and distilled alcoholic beverages were up 3.7 percent from last month, while inventories of petroleum and petroleum products were down 6 percent.
The May inventories/sales ratio was 1.14. The May 2009 ratio was 1.34.
