Descartes Buys Belgian Customs Filing Provider

Descartes Systems Group, Waterloo, Ontario, has acquired Belgium-based Dexx, a European customs filing and logistics messaging provider, for about €1.4 million (US$1.9 million). The acquisition adds European customs filing capabilities and expands Descartes'network in Europe.
 
With anticipated upcoming European Union regulations expected to mandate electronic notification to custom authorities of the contents of a vehicle, aircraft or vessel prior to arrival at the border, we saw an opportunity to play an exciting role in this market by combining our local expertise with Descartes'Global Logistics Network,"said Johan Deckx, president of Dexx.

Valley National Gases Agrees to Buy General Welding Supply

Valley National Gases, LLC, Independence, OH, has agreed to acquire General Welding Supply, Martins Ferry, OH, and its affiliates. General Welding Supply distributes industrial, medical, and specialty gases, bulk propane, and welding supplies with locations in Martins Ferry, Dover, and Ashtabula, OH, and Erie, PA.
 
Valley also acquired L.P. Gas Company, a distributor of propane with one location in Bridgeport, WV.
 
Michael Ziegler, CEO of Valley National, said: The acquisitions of General Welding Supply and L.P. Gas Company are a great addition to our existing business in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, and will further enhance our service capabilities throughout the region."
