Sales April 2003 sales of merchant wholesalers, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading-day differences but not for price changes, were $235.7 billion, down 2.0% (+/-0.6%) from the revised March level, but were up 3.8% (+/-1.0%) from the April 2002 level. The March preliminary estimate was virtually unchanged. Among durable goods, sales of motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts and supplies decreased 1.8% from last month. April sales of nondurable goods decreased 3.6% (+/-0.8%) from last month, but were up 6.8% (+/-1.7%) from last year. Compared to last month, sales of petroleum and petroleum products decreased 24.0% and sales of paper and paper products decreased 2.3%.
