C.H. Briggs, Reading, PA, has acquired the assets of two Atlantic Plywood branches, located in Quakertown, PA and Baltimore, MD, a regional distributor specializing in hardwood plywoods. The deal lets C.H. Briggs provide its customers with a broader product portfolio, including hardwood plywood in various cores and thickness, flakeboard, MDF, melamine, and specialty sheet goods. Airgas, Inc., Radnor, PA, has agreed to acquire the assets of Interstate Welding Sales Corporation, Marinette, WI, a distributor of welding equipment supplies; industrial, specialty and medical gases; and fire protection systems. The acquisition is expected to close Mar. 31. The operations, which generated about $35 million in annual sales in 2003, builds out Airgas' presence in Northeastern Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The acquisition includes a main office and cylinder fill plant in Marinette and branches in Appleton, Fond du Lac, Green Bay, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, and Schofield, WI; and Escanaba, Iron Mountain, and Marquette, MI in the Upper Peninsula. Precision Industries, Omaha, NE, has acquired 100 percent of Chase Software Systems, Simi Valley, CA, a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) designed to track labor and material costs as it relates to plant assets. Chase, started in 1993, partnered with Precision in 1999 to build out Precision's in-house e-procurement and technology tools for customers. Some of Chase's current clients include McCormick Foods, AFCO (joint venture between Bosch and Denso Automotive), Tip Top Poultry, and Baldwin Filters. Chris Circo, president and COO of Precision's Supply Chain Services group, will continue to serve as president of Chase Software and Craig Tyler, Precision's director of MIS, will serve as COO of Chase Software. Chase will now be headquartered in Omaha. Precision Industries, established in 1945, expanded its product base and geography to its current 120 locations in 2002 with the acquisition of Bobker Bearings, The Ross-Willoughby Co., The McGraw Group, Biglow Industrial and M.R. Snyder Co.
