Hughes Supply, Inc., Orlando, FL, a distributor of construction, repair and maintenance-related products has acquired Todd Pipe & Supply, a $211-million independent wholesale plumbing supplier with eight branches in Southern California and one in Las Vegas, NV, with an estimated 25% share in each of those markets. Machine Tools Supply, Costa Mesa, CA, an industrial distributor that has focused on the use of automated dispensing systems for industry, has agreed to purchase Neuhart Tool Company. The merger will create one of the largest industrial distributors in Southern California. The new company will focus its efforts on integrated supply contracts using the AutoCrib 'point of use' technology. See article on p. 4 of this section.
Nichols, Muskegon, MI, a distributor of paper, packaging and sanitary supplies, has acquired two companies: Priority Services LLC, Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids, MI, and the sanitary supply division of Airgas Great Lakes, Traverse City and Jackson, MI. Priority Services is a three-year-old repair business for industrial and institutional equipment, and gives Nichols a broader base for equipment repair across lower Michigan. Airgas Great Lakes' Sanitary Supply division expands Nichols' presence. The company plans to extend its market north to Sault Ste. Marie and throughout southeastern Michigan.
Aetna Plastics Corp., Cleveland, OH, has acquired Vanguard Plastics Inc., Mantua, OH. Vanguard, a fabricator of corrosion-resistant plastic materials, will continue as the fabrication division of Aetna Plastics. Aetna is a distributor and fabricator of industrial plastics.
Superior Plus Inc., a subsidiary of Superior Plus Income Fund, Calgary, has acquired The Winroc Corporation, Winroc Supplies Ltd. and Allroc Building Products Ltd. for C$101.2 million on a debt free basis, subject to certain adjustments. Winroc is the seventh largest distributor of walls and ceilings construction products in North America. The business is headquartered in Calgary and will be operated as a division of Superior, which has other distribution operations in other sectors. See article on p. 7.
Parker Hannifin Corporation, Cleveland, OH, reported orders for the month of May in the North American Industrial businesses increased 30 percent over the same month last year, while Rest-of-World Industrial orders increased 14 percent. In the Climate and Industrial Controls business, order rates were eight percent higher, and orders at Parker Aerospace were 12 percent higher compared with last year.
Parker Hannifin has acquired the assets of Mead Fluid Dynamics Ltd., the European subsidiary of Chicago-based Mead Fluid Dynamics Inc., for an undisclosed amount. Located in the UK, Mead Fluid Dynamics has annual revenues of approximately $3 million and includes the design and assembly of pneumatic components and control systems for the transportation and process control markets. The business will be integrated into Parker's Automation Group. The current operation will be transferred to Parker's Pneumatic Division Europe located in Cannock, UK.
Daily sales at W.W. Grainger's branch-based businesses were up 9% in May versus May 2003. Daily sales at Lab Safety Supply
