Founded in 1993, International Food Group was formed to meet the distribution needs of quick services restaurants in the Caribbean, Central and South America. Since inception, IFG has become one of the fastest growing distribution companies in the foodservice industry. Located near Tampa, Florida, IFG operates a 75,000 square foot warehouse that incorporates refrigerated, frozen and dry facilities. The company offers a full line of products such as meat, poultry, produce, food ingredients, packaging, smallwares and equipment on a direct or consolidated basis.
IFG has no U.S. based customers. The company's entire focus is on servicing the international market place. IFG currently ships 3,000 containers per year to The Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe, Asia and The Middle East. It developed a disposable bulkhead system for shipping frozen and dry products in 50,000-pound (product gross weight) containers to lower shipping costs.
IFG is currently servicing more than 1,500 restaurants around the world. Current customer base includes KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Wendy's, Tony Roma's and Kenny Roger's roasters restaurants.
In March 2000, International Food Group formed a joint venture with Quality Distributing Company (Harman Management Corporation). Located in Union City, CA, Quality Distributing operates a 55,000 square foot warehouse with the same capabilities as IFG's Florida facility.
'This is another step towards establishing a SYSCO presence in foodservice markets outside of North America,' said Richard J. Schnieders, SYSCO's chairman and CEO. 'The combination of SYSCO's distribution and procurement channels with International Food Group's expertise in delivering products to international quick service restaurants will result in customers having access to a wider variety of foods and other supplies in those marketplaces. We are enthusiastic about the operational synergies and future growth prospects this acquisition provides.'
Joseph Blancato, who founded International Food Group in 1993, will remain as chairman, and Berry Wright, a nine-year veteran of IFG, will serve as president of the company.
'The ability to be aligned with North America's leading foodservice distributor will add significant product breadth and depth for our existing and future customers,' Blancato said. 'Equally important, our employees are proud to be a part of one of today's most successful and respected companies whose values and customer service efforts mirror our own. This is a great time to operate in the foodservice industry, and we are excited about the future opportunities that await us.'
SYSCO is the largest foodservice marketing and distribution organization in North America, providing food and related products and services to 420,000 restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, lodging establishments and other foodservice customers. The company generated sales of $27.5 billion for calendar year 2003. SYSCO's operations are located throughout the U.S. and Canada and include broadline companies, specialty produce and custom-cut meat operations, Asian foodservice and hotel supply operations and SYGMA, the company's chain restaurant distribution subsidiary.
