While retail channels push radio frequency identification (RFID) technology development, the Department of Defense has taken the lead on RFID among government agencies. Even though the DoD recently postponed some of the closest deadlines, here's a primer on what distributors of all sizes targeting government business should start working on.


The need to find new customers is as important as ever, and the government fits the bill perfectly, especially the Department of Defense. In 2005, the DoD will be the largest single consumer in the U.S. with a spending budget over $400 billion. Within this budget, nearly $140 billion has been earmarked for maintenance and operations purchases.
