IBC to Offer Safety Products Through Alliance
January 25, 2005
IBC plans to migrate into the safety supply channel through an alliance with Safety Marketing Group (SMG). IBC's new division, SafetySupplyPlusﾙ, will allow them to increase the amount of product lines currently being offered to their end user customers. The engine behind SafetySupplyPlusﾙ will be Safety Marketing Group (SMG) ofBrooksville, FL. Founded in 1989, SMG is made up of 50 independently owned safety supply distributors with 140 locations throughout North America. These safety specialists are known for: personal protective equipment, fall protection systems, air monitoring equipment, flammable storage and containment, ergonomics, as well as signs and markings.
Today IBC markets their industrial, bearing and electrical distributors on regional, national and minority contracts, while SMG pursues the safety component on customer contract initiatives. The union of these two companies will now allow both of these organizations to sell multiple product lines, as well as minority credits to existing and prospective customers.
Mike Smeaton, president of SMG, said, SMG is excited at the opportunity to partner with IBC on local, regional and national contracts. We see them and their members as specialists in the other commodity areas and look forward to representing the full safety category." Smeaton continued, "By sharing market intelligence and working on these opportunities together, we will increase the amount of business we bring to our members. We also see an opportunity to provide the customer greater cost savings through vendor reduction and improved customer service."
Dan Burnham, EVP of business development added, "Many of IBC's members carry some level of safety products, but when a national agreement requires safety specialists, we don't have an opportunity to compete for that business. With this alliance, we can now check the "safety box" on all RFP's. The success and direction of IBC the last two years has been to provide the end user customer access to our leading group of distributors. With the addition of SMG and their members we will now be able to offer those customers an additional product line, employee training and ultimately standardization through channel optimization."
IBC, comprised of multiple commodity divisions, is one of North America's leading alliances of industrial, bearing & power transmission, electrical, safety, and chemical management distributors with over 500 locations and total sales in excess of $2.5 billion. The organization provides multi-location customers a streamlined, cost-effective and dynamic purchasing source for national and regional contracts. IBC provides its member-distributors and preferred suppliers the tools, resources and market access needed to thrive in today's competitive marketplace, as well as a unique collaboration forum. IBC is a Hispanic Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) certified by the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC).
