Chicago-based Grainger, broad line
distributor of facilities maintenance products, has completed its tender offer bid in Japan for 53% of MonotaRO Co. Ltd.,
a Japanese distributor of MRO supplies to businesses in Japan.
According to Grainger, the Japanese industrial market is the second largest MRO market in the world. In 2008,
MonotaRO had revenues of $136 million and operating earnings of $11 million.
As a majority owner, Grainger will recognize 100% off the fair value of acquired assets and assumed
liabilities of MonotaRO.
Inc. had 2008 sales of $6.9 billion. It has operations in the U.S., Canada,
China and Panama.
