Monthly Wholesale Trade: Sales and Inventories for March 2005

March 2005 sales of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers' sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading-day differences but not for price changes, were $291.5 billion, up 0.2 percent from the revised February level and were up 7.2 percent from the March 2004 level. March sales of durable goods decreased 0.5 percent from last month, but were up 6.7 percent from a year ago. Compared to last month, sales of lumber and other construction materials decreased 4.1 percent, while sales of electrical and electronic goods increased 2.2 percent. March sales of nondurable goods were up 0.9 percent from last month and were up 7.7 percent from last year.
