Applied Named a Star Distributor by Goodyear
July 5, 2005
Applied Industrial Technologies, Cleveland, OH, has been named a Star distributor by Goodyear Engineered Products. Goodyear's Star program establishes standardized hose, coupling and crimping protocols for industrial hose used in a wide range of applications, including the chemical, agriculture, mining and construction industries.
Under the Star program, Applied operations at eight hose shops have been validated for using consistent products, techniques and processes, while its 350 service center locations provide uniform hose assemblies to customers within 24-hours.
"We are very pleased to recognize Applied for providing its customers with hose assemblies consistently produced at any of its hose shops," said Lou Dizenzo, Goodyear manager of national accounts. "Safety and reliability are critical for industrial hose applications, and Applied has a stellar reputation for both within the industry."
Conventional hose assemblies can contain unmatched parts, making it difficult to ensure secure connections and component compatibility. Using Goodyear crimp specifications, as well as assembly guidelines from the Association for Hose and Accessories Distribution (NAHAD), Applied has received validation from Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., an independent testing and certification organization.
At the core of the Star program is an expanding line of assembly systems, including Goodyear's patented Insta-Lock cam-and-groove hose couplings with automatic locking handles that help guard against leaks and spills.
In addition, Goodyear Hose Trakker software, a value-added service, is used by Applied to permanently document the life of a hose assembly from fabrication and installation to scheduled replacement. The software package monitors a complete system and assists in testing and scheduling inspections. It also provides preventive maintenance recommendations. "Applied is delivering to the market a matched, fully-integrated hose assembly system that can improve performance, provide predictive maintenance, and ultimately reduce costs," Dizenzo said. "The ultimate winner is the industrial end-user."
To qualify for Star verification, Applied met a set of criteria established by NAHAD consistent with the evolving needs of industrial hose users. The UL verification is in effect for 12 consecutive months, after which Applied will be required to re-qualify for Star status.
