Commentary: Home Depot points bigger guns at MRO channels

If you had any questions if The Home Depot might make more deals in the MRO distribution arena, ponder no more: It's a matter of when, not if. Home Depot wants to build into some different distribution verticals, and industrial is an active target for them. My bet would be on sooner rather than later.

As the article in this issue relates, HD has agreed to acquire National Waterworks Holdings for $1.35 billion, a figure just under its annual sales. This acquisition follows a smaller one in the same area earlier this year of cataloger Utility Supply of America, which runs the USA Bluebook catalog. It also follows the acquisition last year of White Cap Supply, a $500-million distributor of construction supplies.
