Compared with January 2014, February 2014 seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector grew by 0.1 percent in the euro area (EA18) and in the EU28, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In January, production in construction rose by 1.6 percent and 1.4 percent respectively.
Year-over-year, February production in construction increased by 6.7 percent in the euro area and by 5.5 percent in the EU28.
Compared with January, February production in construction had the highest increases observed in Poland (up 17.4 percent), Hungary (up 8.2 percent) and Spain (up 3 percent), and the largest decreases were observed in Slovenia (down 4.9 percent), Italy (down 3.7 percent) and the United Kingdom (down 2.8 percent).
Building construction fell by 0.4 percent in the euro area and in the EU28. Civil engineering rose by 1.1 percent in the euro area and 1 percent in the EU28.
Compared with February 2013, February 2014 production in construction had the largest increases registered in Slovenia (up 33.1 percent), Hungary (up 28.3 percent), Spain (up 23.9 percent), Poland (up 14.4 percent) and Germany (up 14.1 percent), and the largest decreases in Romania (down 14.7 percent), Portugal (down 11.5 percent) and Italy (down 7.9 percent).
Year-over-year, building construction increased by 6.6 percent in the euro area and by 5.9 percent in the EU28. Civil engineering rose by 7.9 percent in the euro area and by 3.3 percent in the EU28.
