Wholesale revenues in June were $465.8 billion, up 5.5 percent from June 2016 and 0.7 percent from May 2017, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The April 2017 to May 2017 percent change was revised from the preliminary estimate of down 0.5 percent to down 0.1 percent.
June sales of durable goods were flat over last month and up 5.8 percent from a year ago. Sales of electrical and electronic goods were up 1.3 percent from last month and sales of metals and minerals, except petroleum were up 0.1 percent. Sales of nondurable goods were up 1.4 percent from May and up 5.1 percent from last June. Sales of farm product raw materials were up 1.5 percent from last month and sales of petroleum and petroleum products were up 1.9 percent.
Total inventories of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations but not for price changes, were $599.4 billion at the end of June, up 0.7 percent from the revised May level. Total inventories are up 2.8 percent from the revised June 2016 level. June inventories of durable goods were up 0.5 percent from last month and up 3.6 percent from a year ago. Inventories of metals and minerals, except petroleum were up 0.3 percent from last month, while inventories of furniture and home furnishings were up 0.6 percent. Inventories of nondurable goods were up 1 percent from May. Inventories of drugs and druggists' sundries were up 2.4 percent from last month and inventories of petroleum and petroleum products were down 5.2 percent
The June inventories/sales ratio for merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, based on seasonally adjusted data, was 1.29. The June 2016 ratio was 1.32.
