Motion Industries and Bunzl plc led in distribution M&A activity during February, announcing two and three acquisitions, respectively.
Motion Industries, Birmingham, AL, No. 6 on MDM’s 2015 list of the top 40 industrial distributors and a subsidiary of Genuine Parts Co., Atlanta, GA, agreed to acquire Epperson and Co., Tampa, FL. Epperson is a supplier of bulk material conveying products and services in the Southeast U.S.
The company distributes conveyor-related products, such as belting, idlers and pulleys, and provides services such as system installation and removal, belting splicing and installation, idler replacement and other maintenance projects.
Motion also agreed to acquire Missouri Power Transmission, St. Louis, MO. The 15-branch distributor of power transmission equipment and industrial supplies specializes in chains, sprockets, bearings, seals, electric motors and controls, belting and related industrial parts.
Bunzl plc, the UK-based international distribution and outsourcing group, continued to expand its geographic reach with three acquisitions in February.
The company acquired Brazil-based Dental Sorria Ltda and California-based Earthwise Bag Company Inc., and it agreed to acquire Bursa Pazari İnşaat Sanayi ve Ticaret AS, based in Turkey.
The acquisition of Dental Sorria, with 2015 sales of R$29.2 million (US$7.3 million), expands Bunzl’s operations in Brazil to the dental supplies sector.
Earthwise Bag Co., with 2015 sales of $18 million, supplies reusable bags to supermarkets and other retailers in the U.S. The acquisition expands Bunzl's offering of environmentally friendly products to the grocery and retail sectors.
Bursa Pazari İnşaat Sanayi ve Ticaret AS, with 2015 sales of TRY131 million (US$44.3 million), sells packaging and other foodservice supplies and disposable gloves to wholesalers, retailers and hospitals throughout Turkey and also exports products to countries overseas.
