Modern Distribution Management has covered advances in distribution-related technology for more than 40 years. So our new MDM Technology Provider Directory is a logical next step. It is a resource for wholesale distribution executives to sift through the growing number of resources to build the right solutions for their businesses. Arguably, technology consumers will see some of the most rapid change over the next few years, and we felt a comprehensive guide to technology tools will be a valuable resource. After a period of consolidation in technology providers, a number of factors are contributing to a wider range of solutions and providers.

Our goal is to make this directory as comprehensive as possible, so please let us know of resources you are using that should be included.
We’ve started with five categories:
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
B2B (e-commerce tools)
ADD (Solutions that add on to your current system,
i.e. logistics, pricing or business intelligence software)
It’s all about the applications! Just as the iPhone and other smartphones have changed how we think about mobile devices, cloud computing is driving business technology for the near future. It’s also known as Software as a Service (SaaS), a model of software deployment where the distributor, for a monthly fee, accesses a business application over the Internet. There are strong SaaS and niche traditional solutions emerging across all technology categories, including ERP.
The net result of the evolution of technology is that distribution companies will be able to customize their ERP systems with a wide array of specialized applications that match specific needs. The whole concept of ERP will be undergoing a transition, as well. Regardless of platform, every provider is working to make their solutions more flexible and adaptive to customer needs than ever before.
This competitive landscape is healthy for the consumer. MDM will continue to closely follow how distributors are leveraging these new tools to gain competitive advantage.
