Distributor's Approach to Video: Product Training, Employee Communication & Zombies?

Fluid power distributor Livingston & Haven has prioritized video as a way to market to potential and existing customers, attract employees and draw attention to their own product lines. Some videos feature tips on how to use the products the distributor sells, and others feature employee programs, including Livingston & Haven’s internships.

But in one that caught our eye, Livingston & Haven brought zombies into the mix. In a take-off of the popular television series The Walking Dead, the distributor shows a man running from a pack of zombies until he gets to a spot where he pulls out his GoSol Power Box, created by Livingston & Haven, and plugs in a stereo. The stereo pumps out music that distracts the zombies.

Tim Gillig, vice president of sales for Livingston & Haven, talked to me about the distributor’s approach to video in the latest 7 Minutes With … interview. The zombie video, he says, was a way to draw attention into the distributor’s solar energy-based initiative, GoSol.

The mobile box featured in the zombie video has all the components a worker in a remote location would need for a power supply. A worker could charge batteries, computers, tools and more – wherever he is. “You don’t have to have a generator in the middle of nowhere,” Gillig says.

The distributor has dozens of videos on its YouTube channel, LHTV News.

“Our president and owner is passionate about video,” Gillig says. The distributor has a studio in its headquarters in Charlotte, NC.

“We’re trying to drive people to our website,” he says.
