VWR International distributes chemicals, glassware, equipment, instruments, protective clothing, production supplies and other assorted laboratory products. Principal customers include major pharmaceutical, biotechnology, industrial and government organizations, as well as academic institutions, including schools, colleges and universities. VWR started off 2013 with a new president and CEO, Manuel Brocke-Benz, who had been serving as interim CEO while the board of directors searched for a replacement for former president and CEO John Ballbach.
VWR recently divested its primary retail product line, according to an annual report. In November 2012, VWR acquired Lab3 Limited, a distributor of scientific laboratory supplies and services headquartered in the UK. In December 2012, VWR acquired Labonord SAS and Switch BVBA. Labonord is a distributor of consumables and chemicals based in France.
