Airgas announced last year it would be acquired by Paris-based Air Liquide for $10.3 billion, and the deal closed in May. Airgas, which will continue to be run under its own name as an Air Liquide subsidiary for the U.S., operates in several segments, including pipeline & bulk, packaged gases, welding hardgoods, safety PPE and other MRO.
Executive Chairman Peter McCausland – who, five years ago, rejected a purchase offer for half that value from Air Products – says of the deal that did happen: "Air Liquide's long-term vision and strong heritage in the U.S. make it the right fit for our valued customers. Airgas customers and employees will benefit from Air Liquide's unrivalled global footprint and strength in technology, innovation and operational efficiency, while Airgas is ready to bring the entrepreneurial culture and packaged gas excellence that have driven our success to date."
