Energy markets continued to be a drag on sales for Applied Industrial Technologies for its fiscal year 2016. But sales to oil & gas customers started showing signs of life in early 2017. Like much of the industrial sector, overall sales for the year were disappointing.
But the distributor took the opportunity to invest in improving its customers' experience, particularly with the launch of a new website. The company unveiled the new website, applied.com, about two weeks after releasing its fiscal year earnings. Applied is looking to boost its omnichannel presence with the new site, which the company believes will surpass its onsite vendor managed inventory and print and electric catalog channels, as well as attract new customers, with functions that include multichannel quote and order history.
