In December 2016, after months of on-again, off-again talks of merger, Praxair and German-based Linde agreed to unite in a $70 billion deal. The merger, which likely won't be completed until the second half of 2018, could provide equal parts opportunity and fear for smaller distributors, who might be able to acquire some of the companies' assets as the merger gets completed but will also have to contend with the scale of the gases giant.
Praxair does not break out sales for its distribution segment, Praxair Distribution Inc. Instead, the company describes itself as a fully integrated industrial and medical gases company, providing the manufacture and distribution of specialty gases to a diverse cross section of customers.
