Making it easy for customers to find what they are looking for on your e-commerce site will increase their perceived value of your company, according to Jonathan Bein and Dean Mueller of Real Results Marketing in 2016 State of E-Commerce: E-Commerce Journey Continues.

Product taxonomy that allows the majority of search items to be found in three clicks or less and a robust on-site search that allows visitors to find what they need are critical elements if you want your customers to view you as a reliable, efficient resource.

According to Bein and Mueller, it is also important to include more than just the basic data for products, particularly for your company's most important SKUs. Additional product attributes, robust descriptions, title tags, meta descriptions and other information can improve search efficiency.

The goal is to have searchable product information that most closely resembles how a customer would search. Not only does this help customers find what they are looking for, it makes the site easier to find in search engines.
