AmerisourceBergen Sales Climb 38.5% in First Quarter

Profit fell to $41.4 million from $168.6 million a year ago.

AmerisourceBergen Corp. (NYSE: ABC), Valley Forge, PA, reported sales for the first quarter ended Dec. 31, 2013, of $29.2 billion, up 38.5 percent over the same period a year ago.

Profit was $41.4 million, compared with year-ago profit of $168.6 million.

Pharmaceutical distribution segment sales were $28.6 billion, an increase of 39 percent compared to the same quarter in the prior year. AmerisourceBergen Drug Corporation (ABDC) revenues increased 46 percent, due primarily to the onboarding of the new Walgreens branded pharmaceuticals business and increased sales to large customers. AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group (ABSG) revenues increased 8 percent, driven by strong performance in blood products, vaccine and physician office distribution businesses.
