November Construction Production Up in Europe

Production in the construction sector up 2.1 percent in EA19, 1.9 percent in EU28.

Compared with the same month a year ago, November seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector increased by 2.1 percent in the euro area (EA19) and by 1.9 percent in the EU28, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Compared with October, production in construction increased by 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 0.7 percent in the EU28.

The increase of 0.8 percent in production in construction in the euro area in November 2015, compared with October 2015, is due to building construction rising by 1.1 percent, while civil engineering fell by 0.3 percent.

In the EU28, the increase of 0.7 percent is due to building construction rising by 0.8 percent, while civil engineering fell by 0.8 percent.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases in production in construction were recorded in Slovenia (+15.5 percent), Hungary (+3.6 percent), Italy and Poland (both +2.9 percent), and the largest decreases in Slovakia (-4.9 percent) and the Czech Republic (-0.7 percent).

The increase of 2.1 percent in production in construction in the euro area in November 2015, compared with November 2014, is due to building construction rising by 2.7 percent, while civil engineering fell by 0.5 percent. In the EU28, the increase of 1.9 percent is due to building construction rising by 2 percent and civil engineering by 1.5 percent.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases in production in construction were recorded in Slovakia (+16.9 percent), Sweden (+10.7 percent), Romania (+6.8 percent) and Slovenia (+6.1 percent), and the largest decreases in Portugal (-4.5 percent) and Poland (-1.9 percent).
