VWR Sales Down 2.6% in 1Q

First quarter sales in the Americas grew 6.5 percent year-over-year.

Laboratory products distributor VWR Corp., Radnor, PA, reported sales for the first quarter of $1 billion, a decrease of 2.6 percent year-over-year. Profit for the quarter was $71.5 million, compared to $5 million in the prior year quarter.

First quarter sales in the Americas grew 6.5 percent year-over-year to $605.3 million, while sales in EMEA-APAC fell 13.1 percent to $424.3 million.

"In the first quarter, organic revenue growth was 3.6%, driven by solid performance in the Americas, which continues to benefit from strong Biopharma revenues and continued research and development spending," said Manuel Brocke-Benz, president and CEO.
