July Construction Production Rises in Europe

Production in the construction sector rose by 1 percent in EA19 and 0.7 percent in EU28.

Compared with June 2015, July seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector rose by 1 percent in the euro area (EA19) and by 0.7 percent in the EU28, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Compared with July 2014, production in construction grew by 1.8 percent in the euro area and by 2.3 percent in the EU28.

Compared with June, July's increase of 1 percent in production in construction in the euro area is due to civil engineering rising by 1 percent and building construction by 0.9 percent. In the EU28, the increase of 0.7 percent is due to civil engineering rising by 1.4 percent and building construction by 0.6 percent.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases in production in construction were recorded in Sweden (+4.2 percent), Germany (+3.2 percent) and Poland (+2.2 percent), and the largest decreases in Hungary (-3 percent), Slovenia (-2.8 percent) and the United Kingdom (-1.3 percent).

The year-over-year increase of 1.8 percent in production in construction in the euro area in July 2015 is due to civil engineering rising by 3.9 percent and building construction by 1.3 percent. In the EU28, the increase of 2.3 percent is due to civil engineering rising by 6.6 percent and building construction by 1.6 percent.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases in production in construction were recorded in Slovakia (+23.4 percent), Romania (+15.1 percent) and the Czech Republic (+14 percent), and the largest decreases in Slovenia (-14 percent), France (-3 percent) and the United Kingdom (-2.3 percent).
