Motion Industries 2016 Sales Down 0.2%

Genuine Parts sales up 3 percent for the year.

Motion Industries, No. 4 on MDM’s 2016 list of the top 40 industrial distributors, reported sales for 2016 of $4.6 billion, down 0.2 percent compared to the previous year. Operating profit decreased .7 percent to $336.6 million.

Fourth-quarter sales were $1.1 billion, an increase of 4 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. Operating profit increased 11.6 percent to $80.9 million.

Parent company Genuine Parts Co. (NYSE: GPC), Atlanta, GA, reported sales for 2016 of $15.3 billion, an increase of 3 percent compared to the previous year. Profit decreased 3 percent to $687.2 million.

Fourth-quarter sales for Genuine Parts were $3.7 billion, an increase of 3 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. Profit decreased 6 percent to $152.5 million.

Sales at EIS, the electrical/electronic group, for 2016 decreased 4.6 percent to $715.6 million compared to the previous year. Fourth-quarter sales decreased 0.2 percent to 176.8 million.

Sales for S. P. Richards, the office products group, increased 1.6 percent to $2 billion for 2016.

Automotive sales increased 1.2 percent to $8.1 billion for 2016 and 2.4 percent to $2 billion for the fourth quarter.
