Actuant Corp. (NYSE: ATU), Milwaukee, WI, reported sales for the fiscal fourth quarter ended August 31, 2012, of $405.3 million, a 0.5 percent increase over the same period a year ago. The distributor reported a loss from continuing operations of $16.5 million, compared to a year-ago profit of $41.4 million.

During the fourth quarter the company deployed $40 million for the CrossControl acquisition and $24 million in stock repurchases which more than offset the strong fourth quarter operating cash flow.
For the full fiscal year, sales were $1.6 billion, up 11.1 percent over the prior year. Profit fell 22.8 percent to $87.3 million.
Full-year sales for the industrial segment were $419.3 million, a 6.7 percent increase over the prior year. Energy segment sales rose 19 percent to $349.2 million. Electrical segment sales were $328.8 million, an increase of 15 percent year-over-year. Sales for the engineered solutions segment were up 7.4 percent, coming in at $508.1 million for the full year.
