Bossard Group, Zug, Switzerland, reported sales for the first quarter were CHF 130 million (US$144.7 million), an increase of 9.6 percent over the same period a year ago. In local currencies, sales increased 18.4 percent.

Sales in Europe increased 9.7 percent (16.3 percent in local currencies) to CHF 73.5 million (US$81.8 million). Although growth rates in the various countries differed, a continuing upward trend in demand was noticeable throughout Europe.
Sales in America increased 10.1 percent in the quarter (23.7 percent in local currencies) to CHF 36.1 million (US$40.2 million). The company attributes the increase to higher sales to existing customers as well as to an enhanced market share through the acquisition of new customers.
Sales in Asia totaled CHF 20.4 million (US$22.7 million), an increase of 8.5 percent (17 percent in local currencies) year on year.
Bossard Group does not operate in Japan and is therefore not immediately touched by the recent severe events there. However, it anticipates some impact on other Asian countries during the course of the year, according to a statement from the company.
