Crane Co. (NYSE: CR), Stamford, CT, reported sales for the second quarter of $702.5 million, a 1.4 percent decrease over the same period a year ago. Profit increased 1.3 percent to $69.3 million.

Aerospace and electronics sales were down 9.5 percent to $171.1 million. Engineered materials sales were up 7.6 percent to $69.4 million. Merchandising systems sales were up 2.9 percent to $198.2 million. And fluid handling sales were down 0.8 percent to $263.8 million.

For the first six months, sales were $1.4 billion, up 0.2 percent over the same period a year ago. Profit was up 7.3 percent to $132.3 million.
