Chicago, IL-based Grainger (NYSE: GWW), No. 2 on MDM's list of top industrial distributors, reported daily sales for August increased 4 percent versus August 2012.
The increase included 5 percentage points from volume and 1 percentage point from acquisitions, partially offset by a 1 percentage point decline from lower sales of seasonal products and a 1 percentage point decline from unfavorable foreign exchange.
Daily sales in the U.S. grew 5 percent in August. Sales in Canada fell 1 percent (sales grew 4 percent in local currency). Sales in other businesses, including Asia, Europe and Latin America, increased 5 percent (13 percent in local currencies).
August had 22 selling days this year versus 23 in 2012.
