Cardinal Health is featured in Time Magazine in this article: Prescription for a Turnaround. The article looks at some of the drug distributor’s past mistakes and the new CEO’s strategy for turning the company around. The article has some lessons for distributors outside the pharmaceutical realm, including its acquisition strategy, which created the conglomerate it is today. (Interestingly, the company started as a food distributor, according to the article.)

The article says that CEO George Barrett is now focused on the basics: "strong leadership, better customer service, and supply chain management."
Cardinal Health and two other distributors – McKesson Corp. and AmerisourceBergen – control 90% of the wholesale market.
