The Timken Co. (NYSE: TKR), Canton, OH, reported sales for the third quarter of $1.1 billion, a decrease of 14 percent from the same period a year ago. Profit fell 27 percent to $80.9 million.

Mobile Industries segment sales were $396.9 million, down 10 percent from last year. Process Industries sales were $311.1 million, down 5 percent. Sales for Aerospace and Defense were $84 million, a 3 percent improvement. Sales for Steel, including inter-segment sales, were $377 million, down 25 percent year-over-year.
For the first nine months, sales for Timken were $3.9 billion, flat to the prior-year period. Profit increased 21.7 percent to $420 million.
