United Natural Foods 2Q Sales Up 12.3%

CEO: Growth reflects strong demand for natural and organic products.

United Natural Foods Inc. (Nasdaq: UNFI), Providence, RI, reported sales for the second quarter ended Jan. 26, 2013, of $1.5 billion, an increase of 12.3 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. Profit increased 2.8 percent to to $22.6 million.

For the first six months, sales were $2.9 billion, a 14 percent increase over the prior-year period. Profit increased 18.8 percent to $44.2 million.

"Our sustained top-line growth reflects strong consumer demand being fueled by more people maintaining healthier lifestyles.  We expect this trend to continue for the foreseeable future and will continue with our mission to supply natural and organic products that meet their growing needs," said Steven Spinner, president and CEO.
