United Rentals, Inc. (NYSE: URI), Greenwich, CT, reported total revenue for the third quarter was $713 million and rental revenue was $604 million, compared with $605 million and $507 million, respectively, for the same period last year. Profit was $65 million, compared with $23 million a year ago.

For the first nine months of 2011, the company reported total revenue of $1.9 billion and rental revenue of $1.6 billion, compared with $1.6 billion and $1.3 billion, respectively, for the same period last year. Profit was $72 million, compared with a year-ago loss of $5 million.
