Through these acquisitions, Rexel has grown its sales in emerging countries by €140 million annually, an increase of 25 percent from Rexel's 2010 consolidated revenue in these markets..
The acquisitions are part of Rexel's growth strategy, aimed at growing the distributor's presence in emerging markets, strengthening market share in "mature" countries and broadening its service offering.
The largest of the three acquisitions is in Brazil, where the acquired Nortel Suprimentos Industrials posted sales of €110 million in 2010. Rexel reported that Brazil is one of its priorities due to the size of its domestic market and its growth rate. In addition, Rexel hopes to take advantage of opportunities linked to the hosting of the Soccer World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016.
