Builders FirstSource, Inc. (Nasdaq: BLDR), Dallas, TX, reported sales for the third quarter of $291.8 million, an increase of 34 percent compared to the prior year period. The company reported a loss of $13.6 million, compared to a year-ago loss of $11.6 million.

For the first nine months, sales were $783.1 million, an increase of 33.5 percent year-over-year. Nine-month losses were $44.8 million, compared to a loss of $48.3 million for the first three quarters of 2011.
“Our topline growth continues to exceed the increase in residential construction activity, as actual single-family housing starts in the South Region increased 27.7 percent over the same time period and single-family units under construction increased only 12.4 percent," CEO Floyd Sherman said. "For the second consecutive quarter, we reported positive Adjusted EBITDA, finishing with $3.0 million for the current quarter as compared to an Adjusted EBITDA loss of $0.7 million in the third quarter of 2011.”
