HD Supply, Atlanta, GA, reported sales for the first quarter ended May 5, 2013, of $2.1 billion, a year-over-year increase of 12.6 percent.
The distributor recorded a loss of $131 million, compared with a year-ago loss of $360 million. Extinguishment of debt contributed a loss of $220 million to the quarter's results.
All four of the company's core businesses – Facilities Maintenance, Waterworks, Power Solutions and White Cap – reported growth in the first quarter.
HD Supply Facilities Maintenance also announced the opening of a distribution center in Calera, AL. The new distribution center is the company's 43rd in North America, and the second new distribution center for HD Supply Facilities Maintenance in 2013.
The new distribution center will serve customers in the Southeast, including Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and the Florida panhandle.
