Hexcel Corp. (NYSE: HXL), Stamford, CT, reported third-quarter sales of $351.8 million, up 19.5 percent over the same period a year ago. Profit was $32.2 million, compared with year-ago profit of $15.6 million.

Commercial aerospace sales increased 31.6 percent to $207.4 million, Space & Defense sales grew 8.7 percent to $80.9 million, and Industrial sales grew 1.6 percent to $63.5 million.
For the first nine months of 2011, sales were $1 billion, up 16 percent over the first nine months of 2010. Profit increased 76 percent to $96 million.
Hexcel is a manufacturer of advanced composites materials used in commercial aerospace, space and defense and industrial applications such as wind turbine blades.
