Myers Industries Inc. (NYSE: MYE), Akron, OH, reported sales for the first quarter of $215 million, an increase of 8.1 percent compared to the same period a year earlier, primarily due to last year's acquisitions of Novel and Jamco. Profit fell 21 percent to $7.9 million.
Sales increases in the Material Handling and Lawn & Garden Segments more than offset relatively flat sales quarter-over-quarter in the Distribution and Engineered Products Segments. Sales in the Distribution Segment were $42.6 million, down 0.2 percent from the first quarter of 2012. Profit before taxes fell 19.1 percent to $2.8 million.
